In the West, one would find many centers or gyms that offer Yoga classes. You might have seen quite a few people on the street even who perform certain breathing exercises and certain positions. What you might have seen might be the Hatha, or the Yoga of Postures. This is because Hatha is most popular branch of Yoga in the West. This branch uses Asana (physical poses), Pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation to attain better health and spirituality. Although there are six branches of Yoga, the positions that are taught in each class are all the same. Their difference lies in their execution pace, as well as in the breath used and in the temperature of the “classroom”. When it comes to postures, you would learn that there are certain positions that are executed for specific purposes. For example, there are postures that are designed to blend the polarities of the male and the female energies. These are the Venus Kriyas Yoga Positions. There are also positions that are suggested for those women who are pregnant, those who have PMS and even for those who are already in menopause, or are in there premenopausal years. If there are postures for women, there are also those designed for men. These ones were developed for potency and for potentiality. There are also certain Yoga positions that are for certain parts of the body. For example, there are those for the eyes, for the abdomen, the sciatic nerve and even for your neck. On another note, there are some postures that are intended for a certain kind of ailment. There is one for anxiety, one for insomnia, and even one for migraines. And also there are even poses that were created to control weight.
